Fear, racism show Australia's ugly face
One that reflects an inward-looking nation, fearful of other races and cultures? The other a generous nation, compassionate and keen to give all people "a fair go"? The ugly side of Australia does frequently show its face.
In such desperate circumstances, it remains vital that Australians remain compassionate and keep the doors open to African refugees. For many, it is literally a matter of life and death.
